Three of VCMC’s Programs Make Monster.com’s Top Twelve List of Hot Medical Careers

  • Blog

Monster.com, one of the nation’s premier electronic job search boards, recently reported on employment trends in the medical careers industry. In their synopsis, they identified twelve medical careers which will remain in high demand for years to come. Three programs that are offered by Southern California-based Valley College of Medical Careers — VCMC — were on that list.

When developing their “Top Twelve” medical career hot list, Monster.com agreed with reports that were previously published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, (BLS), about employment trends in medicine. Like the USBLS, Monster.com cites the following influences driving the need for trained healthcare paraprofessionals:

1.) An aging population with increased healthcare needs

2.) The patient need, for in-person services, eliminates the level of job export to foreign countries

3.) An increased demand for home healthcare and residential care

4.) Advances in medical technology

5.) Integrated health systems are growing larger and more complex

VCMC programs on Monster.com’s Top Twelve list include Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Surgical Technician. Monster concludes that the job growth rate, for Medical Assistants, will grow by 34 percent; the demand for Pharmacy Technicians will increase by 32 percent; and that Surgical Technicians will see a 26 percent spike in open job growth rates.

Monster.com further notes the importance, that employers place on receiving a degree or diploma, to secure a job. Monster.com finds that these employers value recent graduates, of accredited medical career colleges over other candidates, because they found that these employees are more prepared to enter their workforce and they have skills that are in-line with recent technological advances.

VCMC students typically complete the medical assistant and pharmacy technician programs in ten months or less. Surgical Technician’s routinely achieve their degree in sixteen months or less. Given the bright prospects, for secure employment in the healthcare industry, securing a diploma in medical assisting, pharmacy technology or an AOS degree in surgical technology is a smart bet.
