Medical Assisting Program

VCMC programs for Medical Assisting prepare students for entry-level positions in the medical field as front and/or back office assistants. Positions are available in clinics, hospitals and doctors’ offices. Upon successful completion of the training, program VCMC graduates will be able to perform EKG’s, prepare strips for evaluation, perform venipunctures, collect specimens, collect patient data, perform vital signs checks, CPR, and First Aid, perform simple lab tests (including Urinalysis and Hematocrit), prepare patients for physical examinations; and assist physicians in minor surgeries. Anatomy & Physiology, along with Medical Terminology, will also be emphasized in this program.

Health Administration (AAS)

The Health Administration program at VCMC, is a 1200-hour program with a comprehensive course of study that combines General Education, Theory, and Clinical Practice. The curriculum is designed to provide qualified individuals with an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, training, and skills, which will enable them to become skilled and competent Health Administrators. Students, who successfully complete this program, will earn an Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS).

Medical Billing and Coding Program

Morn: Mon-Fri: 8-12 – Eve: 6 – 10

This program provides students, with the basic knowledge and skills, that will qualify them to work as an entry-level Medical Biller/Coder. Program graduates will perform front office duties, as a medical clerk, working in clinics, hospitals, doctor’s offices, or medical group practices, or as a health claims examiner working with insurance companies. Students enrolled, in the VCMC program, will be exposed to billing forms, and eligibility guidelines for Medicare, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, and learn billing procedures for TRICARE, CHAMPVA, and Workmans’ Compensation and disability. Students will learn to use ICD-10 and CPT books for coding diagnoses and procedures. Students will use computers, to practice and perform Medical Billing & Coding simulations, using Medi-Soft.

Pharmacy Technician Program

The VCMC courses, for this Pharmacy Technician program, provide students with basic knowledge and skills that will qualify them to work as entry-level Pharmacy Technicians in hospitals and retail facilities. Upon successful completion of the training, program graduates will be able to identify and understand drug nomenclature, dosage forms, routes of administration, and abbreviations used in any pharmacy; identify the most common medications by their trade and generic names; perform conversions and/or calculations of weights and measures; understand California pharmacy law; understand basic pharmacology; perform pharmacy operations of the Drug Distribution system; and perform sterile product preparation.
